James Sales is at the heart and soul of legal representation and public service in Nueces County, Texas. For over 30 years, James has served as a prosecutor known for his integrity, professionalism, and his relentless pursuit of justice. As the founder of the Elect James Sales Law Office, he is now running to be District Attorney-a position he is uniquely qualified for through his experience, commitment, and lifelong ties to the community. James is a family man first and foremost, but more importantly, a local graduate and steadfast advocate for the safety and well-being of every person in Nueces County.
Born and Raised, and Well-Rooted Locally
Born and raised in Corpus Christi, James Sales grew up in a home rooted in values of hard work, perseverance, and community service. His mother was a nurse and his stepfather was a proud veteran of the Vietnam War, consistently displaying courage and a willingness to serve. James attended Ray High School, where he excelled academically and was active in student government and the debate club, starting the path toward his future career in law. The Sales family’s ties to Nueces County stretch back generations, and James has always viewed the region not only as home, but as a calling.
Academic and Legal Education
James Sales obtained his higher education locally, graduating with honors from Texas A&M University Corpus Christi. He then attended the University of Houston Law School, where he was a top student and a member of the Law Review. He interned with both defense lawyers and prosecutors. In those formative years, James received exceptional, well-rounded exposure to law, which enabled him to quickly develop a passion for the field of criminal justice and public advocacy.
A Proven and Distinguished Career in Prosecutorial Roles
For over 30 years, James Sales has been a distinguished prosecutor in Nueces County. He has tried thousands of cases, from complex white-collar matters to the most serious felonies, including murders and felonies based on street gang violence. His trial preparation and courtroom fearlessness have led to convictions that have contributed to increased safety in our local neighborhoods. His leadership in the District Attorney’s office has helped establish policies regarding crime prevention, victim rights, and appropriate sentencing. James is praised by fellow prosecutors and law enforcement for his ethical standards in practicing criminal law and his dedication to upholding the rule of law.
A Lifelong Dedication to Public Service and Community Involvement
James Sales’s commitment to his community extends well beyond the courtroom. Over his career, he has been active in community outreach, legal seminars, and youth mentoring. He can often be seen at local schools, civic groups, and neighborhood meetings discussing the importance of knowing one’s legal rights, crime prevention, and participation in government. Under his direction, the Elect James Sales Law Office sponsors periodic public legal forums and fundraising events that encourage dialogue between legal counselors and the general public. James believes that an informed and active public is vital to the continued health and well-being of Nueces County.
Advocating Justice and Legal System Reform
James Sales is an advocate for reform that promotes accountability and compassion. He believes in evidence-based crime prevention, giving non-violent offenders a second chance through rehabilitative services, and providing strong support for victims. James led the Nueces County effort to address drug abuse, domestic violence, and gang violence. He advocates for transparency in the criminal justice system and believes everyone can work together: residents, law enforcement, and the District Attorney’s office. Convictions matter to James, but so do fairness, protecting the innocent, and hearing every voice.
Family, Values, and Community
Family is central to the life of James Sales. He lives out that commitment as a husband and father. He and his wife, Maria, a public school teacher at L.C. Anderson High School, have two children who both attend Corpus Christi public schools. The values instilled in him by his parents through their hard work and service, both here and abroad, continue to influence him in every facet of his life as a leader for the city, state, and nation. Fully believing that strong families go together with strong communities, he spends many evenings and weekends participating in activities at Corpus Christi’s New Life Lutheran Church, volunteering at a local food pantry, or fishing the shores of the Texas Gulf Coast.
